Las Lagunas de las Madres

In the southeast of the Madrid metropolitan area, between the Jarama and Manzanares rivers, lies Las Lagunas, a natural area characterized by contrasts between its ecological and archaeological value and the degradation caused by industrial activity. Previously a gravel pit known as ``Gravera de las Madres,`` it was rehabilitated after its closure in 1984 and has received recognition for its transformation into a ``semi-natural`` space. It offers opportunities for environmental and recreational education, showcasing both human impact and the potential for recovery.
